About Us

Chris Rice has spent his life immersed in the craft of woodworking. He began building at just four years old, constructing treehouses on the rural property where he grew up and often asking for tools as gifts. By age 18, Chris had established a fully equipped woodshop in his parents’ basement, where he created custom pieces for clients, family, and friends. He went on to attend Rochester Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Woodworking and Furniture Design.

After relocating to the Boston area in 1998, Chris briefly worked with a local commercial shop, where he refined his management skills. In the spring of 2001, he founded Furniture Design Services.

More than 25 years later, the company has grown to a team of 25 and serves a wide range of satisfied clients across Massachusetts, throughout New England, and beyond.
